TCam, a combination of tablet and camera, extends the existing virtual camera concept to a wireless multi-touch tablet device, utilizing a game engine to render the virtual environment and animation in real-time.

The uniqueness of TCam lies in its ability to allow directors, cinematographers and other artists to communicate complicated ideas through a series of multi-touch gestures. With TCam, users are able to quickly modify various elements in a virtual environment to compose a variety of shots that otherwise may not be possible in real world space.

TCam is currently running on an Apple iPad with Unity3D. It can be used with both the PhaseSpace and Vicon tracking systems, as the tracking data is processed by Autodesk MotionBuilder and streamed wirelessly.

TCam is a MFA Thesis project conceptualized, designed and built by Emily C. Duff,
as part of the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts Interactive Media Division
